The Summer OTAPS event was at the home of the Larry Hawes family in Kirkland, Washington near Seattle and overlooking beautiful Lake Washington. There were about 40 OTAPS members and friends attending. Larry’s and his son Ben’s collections are mostly contained in their new museum just below their lovely home. Several collector cars, Ben’s boxing ephemera and rare, unusual talking machines and other music machines greeted us. In one corner was a large picture of Pope Leo blessing us along with a phonograph and cylinders that belonged to him. Other unusual items included original glass horns, an autophone that plays 12 cylinders, Bettini attachments among many others. The Hawes collection may not be as large as some collections, but nearly every machine is unusual and rare. The Hawes family fed us and brought us wine from their vineyard in Oregon. What a wonderful way to spend a July afternoon!
