July 2, 2017 Meeting Notes for WIMAPS/APS
by Scott Malawski
Our most recent meeting, hosted by members Rob and Joan, was held on Sunday, July2, at their home near Appleton, WI.
The day started out with a mini flea market, which began at 1:00 PM. There were some neat items for sale, including some phonographs, records, and many parts. As some members were shopping for treasures, others were snacking on the great variety of food and snacks and/or taking a tour of the Rolfs’ fantastic phonograph collection.
The group then discussed the Gray’s Lake Antique Show on September 9-10 and how WIMAPS AND APS members may sell for free. Also, there will be a presentation on the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. There will also be a recording booth to record the voices of show visitors on Napkin Ring cylinders as a souvenir for a nominal fee. Proceeds from these recordings will be given to APS to help promote the hobby.
Nomination of officers for the next two years, 2018 – 2019, were motioned and approved.
The meeting was then adjourned and then some members participated in show and tell., which included an aftermarket speed control on a Victor V and a unique switch from the early days of radio which helped ground the antenna during a lightning storm.
Members then got to enjoy a buffet of bratwurst, shrimp, salads, beans, and snacks and then soon departed from a fun-filled day. A big Thank YOU to Robin and Joan for sharing their collection and home.
