July 4, 2015 Meeting

Our most recent meeting, hosted members Robin and Joan Rolfs, was held on Saturday, July 4, at their amazing home near Appleton, WI. Prior to the start of the meeting, members got to enjoy the Rolfs’ stunning collection of antique phonographs and other related artifacts. Members were invited to take guided tours of each room or stroll around at their own leisure and also enjoy a variety of main courses, drinks and snacks provided by all.

Our annual 4th of July flea market was a great success. There were abundant items to choose from, including 78 records and cylinders, phonographs, and other memorabilia. Many sales were made and everyone seemed pleased with their new treasures. Rob and Joan also introduced the latest additions to their family – Victor Jr. and Edison, their baby pygmy goats!

President Margaret Bisberg called on nominees for the 2016 officer elections. There was no opposition to our current officers and nominees were quickly accepted. Members will get to cast their votes by submitting their ballots after they receive the next issue of the Badger Talking Machine newsletter in September. She also asked for member input regarding the suggestion of 2016 member certificate with the Old King Cole 18” glass-eyed Nipper as the subject, which was unanimously approved.

The September meeting in Chicago will be postponed due to the Donley’s phonograph auction on September 26-27. Members agreed to have the next meeting at the Gray’s Lake Antiques show on September 12th, which will be held at Jimmy’s Char House restaurant at 6:00 PM. Members are encouraged to sell at the show as tables will be provided to club members at no charge. Member John Hauger of Michigan will be presenting a program on WWI songs and records at the show. Robin Rolfs mentioned how the show is getting bigger and better each year. Other upcoming events include the Wayne, NJ show on September 20 and the Stanton Auction from November 19-21.

Merchandise sales continued to the end of meeting and members polishing off the great food and snacks consisting of Wisconsin bratwurst, beer, assorted salads, pies and deserts.
